Yoga is a holistic system of health and self-discovery. Not just an exercise activity, religion, or esoteric philosophy – it is a way of living. In Sanskrit, the word yoga means to come together or union: bringing together the body and mind, the mind and the spirit.
The most familiar form of yoga we practice in the western world is Hatha Yoga. In Hatha Yoga, we begin by working with the outermost layer of our body (thru asanas or postures) and slowly towards our subtle interior core and eventually move our practice inward toward blissfulness. For example:
the asanas help increase movement and liveliness in our bones, joints, muscles, and skin, bringing health, strength, flexibility, and balance to our bodies.

the circulating of the breath and the life energy (chi) stimulate internal organs, rejuvenate the nervous system and bring harmony to our lymphatic system.

it helps us learn to release tension, cultivate awareness and concentration, so we are more present of our daily activities, therefore bringing a positive outlook to life.
with a positive outlook and the right attitude to life, it can easily lead to a happier, healthier, and more harmonious life, with one’s self, family, community, and universe, and the divine source that’s within and out there.
“Yogas Chitta Vrtti Nirodhah” (Yoga Sutra of Patanjali 1:2)
“Yoga is the cessation of the modification of the mind.”
