01. Why can't I just rent/buy a yoga video? Also, my friend knows how to do yoga, why can't he/she teach me what they know?
It’s fine to start out with videos or with a friend, but it’s much better to have the guidance of a trained teacher to make sure you practice in proper alignment. Yoga poses may seem easy at first, but actually can be rather complex. Without proper care and instruction, you may tweak muscles or joints!

A trained teacher is better equipped with knowledge on modified movements to suit your body’s needs and to provide appropriate adjustments to help alignment in your practice.  She/he can definitely enhance your experience with yoga. Try a Shri class!  It may change your whole perception of yoga!

02. Why can't I just practice on my own all the time?
When initially learning yoga, it’s best to practice under the supervision of a trained teacher to assist in preventing injury and setting up an appropriate practice to suit your needs. Also, practicing alone can become mundane. Practicing yoga in a group setting can be very supportive and inspiring!

03. I can't touch my toes (without bending my knees anyway), am I hopeless?
No! Yoga is for EVERYONE!  As long as you can breathe, you can do yoga. Flexibility certainly is a bonus but definitely not required! There are many modified poses to suit all, regardless of age and fitness level.

04. I'm out of shape. Is this a problem?
Yoga is for everyone (see above)!

05. How will this help my running, climbing, skiing, etc.?
Yoga is a great compliment to any sport or activity, especially since most sports condition our bodies to repetitive motion, e.g. running and biking. Physically, yoga helps to lengthen tight and contracted muscles, bringing increased power to those areas. It also helps to release tension and can bring balance to an overworked body, and on a mental or emotional level, it cultivates awareness and concentration on whatever we’re doing at the time.

06. I've never done yoga before, is that okay?
There is a first time for everything! All you need is a little desire and some curiosity.

07. I'm very advanced in yoga, but want to take my practice to the next level. Is Shri a good place?
Yes. We put a lot of emphasis on helping people that are new with yoga to get comfortable, but we offer classes at every level. We also offer private sessions with our instructors to help deepen your practice.

08. I don't belong to the Spot Gym, is that okay?
Yes, since we operate as a separate business from the Spot Gym, you can take our classes as a drop-in, get a punch pass, or a monthly membership. Please purchase classes upstairs in our studio.

09. What do I say to the Spot Gym's front desk when I enter?
Just mention to them that you’re here for Shri Yoga class and head up the stairs to the yoga studio.

10. After yoga, can I climb at the Spot?
Visit the Spot front desk if you are interested in purchasing a climbing day pass.

11. What style of yoga do you teach?
At Shri, we believe that “There are many paths leading to one Truth,” so we do not follow one specific style of yoga. Most of our teachers are trained in multiple disciplines of yoga, so we can combine our knowledge to provide you with versatility and freedom. Check out Our Teachers page for bios!

12. What should I bring with me?
Nothing, we have all the props (mats, blocks, straps, blankets) you’ll need!

13. What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity.

14. How big are classes?
Shri classes offer an intimate atmosphere with often less than 10 students per class. We keep it that way, so our teachers can pay more attention to YOU.
